Walgreens 101
Walgreens can seem overwhelming just like any other drug store when it comes to maximizing your savings. But, with patience and practice, it will become second nature to you.
There are several coupons that can be used at Walgreens:
1. Walgreens Weekly Ad Coupons:
These are the coupons that are found in their weekly sales flyer.
Most of them have a limit of how many items you can buy with that coupon.
For example:
In Ad Coupon for $1.00 Dawn Dish soap limit 4
Buy 4. The 1 coupon will subtract an amount making all 4 Dawn $1.00 each.
If you purchase 5, it will only take 4 of them down to $1.
You can use a Manufacturer Coupon (MC or MQ) with these in ad coupons. (Stacking)
2. Walgreens EasySaver Catalog Coupons:
This coupon booklet can be found at the front of every store on the display with the weekly sales flyer. They produce a new one every month .
The coupons in these booklets are called Instant Value Coupons (IVC)
These also have a limit on how many you can purchase with 1 coupon.
You can also stack Manufacturer Coupons with these IVC coupons.
3. Walgreens Register Rewards: (RR)
These are coupons that print out when you are finished with your transaction.
You will only earn RR’s once per deal per transaction. If you want to do the same deal, then you must buy them in separate transactions.
For example:
If you get a $5RR for buying 2 packages of Huggies. You buy 4 Huggies, you will only get 1 $5 RR. If you buy 2 Huggies you get $5 RR then you buy another 2 Huggies, you will get another $5 RR. (But don’t use your 1st $5 RR to buy the 2nd 2 pack of Huggies because you won’t get your 2nd $5 RR)
You can also use store and manufacturer coupons with your RR’s. They have no effect on your deal to get the RR.
If the RR, does not print, talk with a manager and she or he can resolve the issue and get you the RR.
When you earn a RR, you can use it to earn another RR. BUT not the same RR item.
For Example:
You buy Huggies diapers and get a $5 RR. You can then use that $5 RR on Lysol spray that gets you a $3 RR. But you could not use that original $5 Huggies RR on earning another $5 Huggies RR.
4. Manufacturer Coupons
COUPON RULES:
The registers will not let you use more coupons than you have items. (excluding Walgreens Ad coupons on IVC coupons) So, you can buy 1 item and use 1 IVC and 1 manufacturer coupon and you will be fine. But, you can not use a RR also. If you wanted to also use the RR in that transaction, you would have to buy a filler item. A filler item is the cheapest item that you can find.
COUPON ORDER:
The best order to hand the coupons over to the cashier to maximize your saving is:
1. Manufacturer Coupon
2. IVC’s
3. Walgreens Ad coupons
4. Register Rewards
There is a lot of debate over which order is best to maximize your savings, this is what I have found works best for me. You will need to try it out for yourself and see what works for you.
And as always, go to the checkout with an approximate total in your head so you know if the given total is close to accurate. It is much easier to fix the error while you are still at the register instead of later.
