TIPS AND TRICKS
To make your life easier. Because you are busy enough.
Here are a few home tips from reader Carrie to make your life a little easier.
- A suggestion for the laundry. Have 2 to 3 zipper/ mesh lingerie bags for each baby/toddler. One bag for whites, one for darks, and possibly one for colors. When undressing the child at night place the socks in the appropriate lingerie bag. Wash and dry with the other clothes. Once the clothes are done in the dryer, pull all clothes out. If needed, take the baby’s sock out of lingerie bag and put in dryer for additional time (they may not dry all of the way the first time around depending how thick the sock is and how many are in the bag). This will keep you from losing baby socks, but also make it easier to match up socks when folding the laundry.
- Did you add too much laundry detergent to the wash? Add a splash of liquid softener to the cycle to cut down on the sudsiness.
- Use clear storage boxes for each set of toys. (Little people and parts in one, Mr. Potato head and parts in another) This makes it easier for kids to find what toy they are looking for. I use clear hanging file folder boxes with handles (found in the storage department at Target or Wal-Mart).
- Sunday night, place nonperishable food into individual snack bags for lunch for the week for each person. This will cut back on taking the snack (pretzels at our house), and the bag out 5 different times during the week. Have these items in basket for easy to grab when making lunches. It also saves money so you do not have to buy the prepackage chips.
- Having kids means changing batteries (in addition to diapers). I keep a set of micro-precision screwdriver (for little screws), a phillips head screwdriver and a flat head screwdriver in the kitchen. That way they are at hand when needing to change batteries and I don’t have to hunt down my husbands tools. With that said, I have my own little tool box with screwdrivers, hammer, pliers and small wrench at hand in kitchen for quick access.
- Speaking of batteries, we have been slowly switching over to rechargeable batteries. By doing it slowly it doesn’t gouge the pocket book, but over time they save money and land fill space.
